Once a year, the quiet town of Rockwell fills with the sounds of roaring engines and cheering spectators as people from coast to coast gather for North Iowa Nationals, a truck and tractor pull that’s now a decade in the running.
“We’ve got participators from New York, Ohio, Tennessee...even some from Canada sometimes,” said Rockwell Fire Chief Mark Lowe.
Organized in part by the National Truck Pulling Association and the Rockwell Lions Club, the weekend’s events raised money that stays within the Franklin and Cerro Gordo counties.
This year’s pull, which occurred last weekend, introduced several new features, including a live jet flyover Saturday night and local veterans joining the Color Guard as they presented the flags.
