Richard "Rick" Collins

Richard "Rick" Collins passed away peacefully, surrounded by family that adored him, on Wednesday, April 26th at MercyOne in Mason City, Iowa. He was born June 5, 1947 in Dumont, Iowa, the son of Haldon and Ollie (Kriens) Collins. In the summer of 1984, Rick came to know Jesus as his Savior. He was baptized alongside his granddaughter, Tara in the summer of 2007 in Iowa Falls.

On January 30, 1965 he was united in marriage to Cheryl Haines in Dumont, Iowa.

Rick lived his entire life in Dumont. He took over his father's business, Collins Construction after having worked side by side with his dad. He was well known in the area for his pole sheds and barns. You can see evidence of his hard work all around the surrounding counties. He was a perfectionist and these buildings will stand the test of time. Through the years, he had many employees and helpers, including his grandson Brandon, that can attest to his perfectionism, "quality control" and unique way of sharing his knowledge. ( Measure twice, cut once...)

In his spare time he could be found at his pasture tinkering on lawn mowers and tractors. There was nothing he couldn't fix. He was always willing to help his daughters with home improvement projects and would accept payment in the form of a turkey dinner or a pie. In the past couple years, he could be found hanging out at home watching Law and Order reruns with his faithful companion Gus on his lap. He was well known for his unique quotes and quips that his family lovingly referred to as "Richardisms". None of which are suitable for print.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Cheryl. He is also survived by his daughters Denise (Troy) Duryee of Mason City and Doreen (Gary) Price of Mukwonago, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Tara (AP Nelson) Cockram of Hampton, Iowa, Gabby Duryee of Mason City, Iowa, Nick (Ashley) Price of Elkhorn, WI, Katie Price of Germantown, WI, Kyle Price of Mukwonago WI; one great-granddaughter, Addilyn Nelson that was fascinated by great grandpa. He is also survived by two sisters, Debbie (Ed) Mouw of Dumont and Barb Morrow of Whitehall, Ohio; one brother, Jerry Collins of Waterloo, Iowa. Also surviving him is his faithful companion and lap dog, Gussy Collins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jim, as well as many Aunts and Uncles. He is also preceded in death by his beloved grandson Brandon Ayers.

Rick was a loving husband, dad and grandpa and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Services will be held at a later date. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Dumont is caring for Richard and his family.
