Write-in candidate wins CAL election following recount
 
     An impromptu write-in campaign proved successful for Cathy Carlson last week when she knocked off Tracy Quinones for a spot on the CAL school board.
     Carlson’s victory was draped in drama. The original tally from the Sept. 8 election had Quinones winning the At-Large Director District 30-26, but a recount Monday flipped the result in favor of Carlson 35-31.
     The reversal shocked the rural Coulter woman, who said she decided to run for the seat on Election Day.
     “I just figured it was over,” she said. “I don’t really have a reason for running other than the neighbors encouraged me to.”
