Mark Gudmundsen is moving forward with renovations at the former Franklin County Jail despite hesitation about the project from local officials.
So far, the Arizona man has upgraded wiring, torn out dry rot, removed wall paper, installed new plumbing and completed other preliminary work at the 136-year-old building. Though there’s still a lot left to do, Gudmundsen remained dedicated to the project and was eager to see it through.
“It’s kind of in it’s ugly stages right now,” he said as he maneuvered around tools, furniture and wood. “But it will start looking better and better as I do more to it.”
Gudmundsen has put in countless hours of work since purchasing the property in mid-March. He intends to transform the jail into a role-playing business later this year, which will allow customers to experience incarceration without committing a crime.
