Rainy weather and cloudy skies didn’t stop local residents from observing Memorial Day during a special ceremony Monday morning in Hampton.

The ceremony featured multiple Memorial Day staples like “Taps” and a 21-gun salute performed by members of the Hampton American Legion, Legion Auxiliary and students from Hampton-Dumont.
Keynote speaker was Kelly Steffen, a history teacher from the Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District. Steffen emphasized the significance of each veteran’s sacrifice and urged audience members to do the same.
