A vote recount in the GOP primary race for Franklin County Supervisor District II confirmed incumbent Jerry Plagge as the winner Tuesday afternoon.

Plagge narrowly edged challenger Gary McVicker by three votes during the June 3 Republican primary election. Original totals showed Plagge beating McVicker 206-203, which was upheld during Tuesday’s recount conducted at the Franklin County Law Enforcement Center.

McVicker had to file a petition for the recount within three days after the primary results were canvassed, which happened on Monday, June 9. Both he and Plagge then had to select a representative for the recount. Plagge picked his wife, Jeanne, while McVicker selected Renee Hansen.

Also on hand was Ken Lubkeman, who served as a neutral party to the recount proceedings and was agreed upon by both Plagge and McVicker.

The trio agreed to count the ballots by hand and then run them through the electronic counting machine to validate the results. After each District II voting precinct was counted by the machine, the original June 3 results remained unchanged.

Also present for the recount were Franklin County Auditor Michelle Giddings, Deputy Auditor Julie Pralle and Mark Fredricks representing Henry M. Adkins and Son, Inc., distributer of the voting machine.
