REINBECK – Youth and inexperience hurt the AGWSR volleyball team in a regional opening-round loss to Gladbrook-Reinbeck here on Tuesday.
However, the Cougars continued to improve throughout the season, which gives first-year AGWSR head coach Stacy Drake a positive outlook on what’s to come.
G-R won 25-13, 25-8, 25-21. The Rebels will travel to 1A No. 1 Janesville on Monday for a regional quarterfinal. The Cougars’ season ends at 9-19.
AGWSR freshman Taylor Sperfslage led the Cougars with five kills and added eight digs. Sophomore Rachel Sicard had a team-high nine digs and two ace serves. Senior leader Mandy Willems distributed nine assists and contributed eight digs.
