WAUKON – Class 2A, District 3 play complete, the Bulldogs are forced to play the waiting game.

Top-ranked Waukon was a force defensively against Hampton-Dumont on Friday, Oct. 18, handing coach Jerry Shafrath’s squad a 40-6 loss.

But, helped by a Union loss to New Hampton, the Bulldogs’ chances of getting the four seed were greatly improved. It will leave Union, Osage and H-D with identical 3-3 district records if both the Knights and Green Devils win Friday.

“I’m not sure yet – it depends on what happens with Union – if it will be a three-way tie (for fourth), it will come down to points,” Shafrath said. “If it’s points – we will be a four seed. I think we might be able to get in as a four seed with Union and Osage. If Union loses, they would be out, if they win, they are in.

“I’m pretty sure we’re in, but we can’t be too excited: stranger things have happened. It’s been a crazy season.”
