Val Plagge knows a thing or two about being a “farm mom.” She knows it involves balancing parenting duties with daily operations, making sure her four kids know the ins-and-outs of farming and giving back to her community.
Recently, Plagge’s dedication to agriculture and life as a farm mom earned her national recognition as America’s Farmers, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, named Plagge as a 2018 Farm Mom of the Year. Each year, America’s Farmers recognizes 10 women throughout the United States who have made significant contributions to their families, the operation and beyond.
Nominated by area farmer April Hemmes, Plagge said she was honored and humbled by the recognition. She said the award reflects not just her life as a “farm mom,” but the role other farm moms have played throughout her life.
“I grew up with a strong farm mom and have many friends that are great farm moms, too,” she said.
Plagge added she is thrilled to share the recognition with nine other women who too serve as an example of a hard-working, dedicated parent, farmer and community member.
