Parking conundrum continues to plague Hampton council last week

Progress with changes to Hampton’s off-street parking code remained at a standstill last Thursday after the city council acknowledged the need for more community input on the issue.

The council is attempting to revise the current ordinance with the hopes of cracking down on residents that park vehicles and other apparatuses on their lawns. The current parking code is written rather vague, which makes it extremely difficult for officers to issue citations after they receive a complaint.

Police Chief Bob Schaefer and City Attorney Megan Rosenberg have been working on suggestions that would define off-street parking regulations better, but the council still felt more evaluation was needed before moving forward with any amendment.
