Before the first school bell rang at North Side Elementary last Friday, parents and students had a chance to see improvements of the building up close.
The school held an open house Thursday evening to show the community improvements to classrooms, mainly new windows that allow more natural light and energy efficient LED light fixtures.
Principal Ellen Pickhinke said that the project added energy efficiency to the school, but also made the atmosphere more appealing for students.
“It has brought more light into our school which has made it more bright and cheerful, because I hope that when I’m here and the teachers are here, we are bright and cheerful,” she said. “I feel like this finally shows who we are as a school with early childhood and kindergarten being here.”
