Hard work and dedication paid off last week for new Hampton Police Capt. Mark Morrison.

The Hampton City Council unanimously approved a recommendation from Police Chief Bob Schaefer promoting Morrison from the rank of corporal to captain at their meeting Feb. 13. Morrison succeeds former police Capt. James Hilton, who retired from the force in September following 37 years of service with the department.

“I feel he is prepared to accept the challenge provided by the captain’s position and some day would make a great Chief of Police,” Schaefer said in his recommendation.

Morrison has lived in Hampton for nearly 14 years. He graduated from Hampton-Dumont High School and joined the police force as a part-time officer in 2002.
