Michael Dombrowski
Michael ”Mike” Lee Dombrowski, 53, entered into eternal life on June 18, 2024 at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, IA, while under the care of Mercy One Hospice.
Mike was born on March 19,1971 in Falls City, NE to Edward “Frenchie” and Joan (nee Peterson) Dombrowski. At the age of 3 Mike and his family moved to Webster City, IA. Then two years later to Hampton, IA. Mike attended Hampton Elementary, Junior High and graduated from Hampton High School in 1990. He went on to attend Iowa State University on a full wrestling scholarship. He went on to a career in construction working at Ames Home Improvement in Iowa from 1995 to 2004, and then again from 2017-2019. While living in Illinois, he worked at Cadbury in construction with his good friends Steve Pinkerton and Dan Medina.
Mike was always athletic. He was introduced to wrestling at the age of 6 by his uncle, Ron Peterson, who was a college wrestling coach. He wrestled, played football and baseball. He was Hampton High School’s Wrestling State Champion in 1990 and is the last state wrestling champion Hampton High School has had to date. In 1993 while attending Iowa State he met his first wife Sylvia. They married in May of 1999. Together they had their daughter Isabelle in January of 2004. In 2004 they also moved to Illinois. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2009. In October 2011 he met his current wife Amy.They began dating in March 2012 and were later married on December 26, 2015. Together they had four children and four grandchildren.
Mike was an avid fisherman, golfer, Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. He preferred fishing by himself, as he felt that it was “his time”. He golfed with many friends including his bonus dad, Clark Moriarty. Mike lived in Illinois from 2004 until 2017 when he and Amy moved to Ames, IA.
Mike is survived by his wife, Amy Dombrowski (nee Anderson) of Ames, IA; daughter, Isabelle Dombrowski (Conner Bleck) of Eau Claire, WI; and her mother, Sylvia Dombrowski of Eau Claire, WI; stepdaughter, Amanda Weteska of Rockford, IL; stepson, Robert (Shayla) Weteska of Rockford, IL; stepdaughter, Jennifer Weteska of Rockford, IL; stepfather and mother; Jerry and Joan Hammond of Union, IA; sister, Tammy (Todd) Lewis of Omaha, NE; brother, Greg (Corey) Dombrowski of Hampton, IL; grandsons, Jeffery and Oliver; granddaughter, Eleanore and nieces Caitlin (Mario) Pena, Hailey Dombrowski, Jaymie Argotsinger and Cydnie Argotsinger and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his bonus dad, Clark Moriarty; dear friend, Dan Medina; grandson, Zaid Isic; brother-in-law, Bruce Argotsinger; grandmother, Lida Peterson and biological father, Edward “Frenchie” Dombrowski.
A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held at the Ames United Church of Christ (217 6th St, Ames) on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. A remembrance visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the service time. A luncheon will follow the Celebration of Life in the Fellowship Hall, and all are welcome to attend.
In memory of Mike please wear blue (his favorite color) Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears or ISU attire. Mike’s family would like to thank Mary Greeley Medical Center 4th floor staff, Bishop Drumm Care Center and Mercy One Hospice for the care they provided Mike in his last 6 weeks.
