HAMPTON – When Jim and Kathy Meyer took over the Figure 8 racing business last year, they wanted to make it a family thing.

And the response from at least 100 racers and fans who attended the Meyer Motorsports banquet Saturday night at the Franklin County Convention Center agree with the family aspect of it wholeheartedly.

“My family is really involved,” Zach Lewis of Dumont said. “My dad gets into it just as much as I do anymore. Actually, it’s a whole family ordeal. Usually when they come, I have 30 family members who come to the races.

“I have a little (nine-year-old) cousin who looks up to me like I’m his hero and it just makes me happy that little people can get into the sport. I actually have five- and six-year old cousins who love it, too. It’s just nice I can come out and watch a family-oriented sport, have fun and put on a good show for them.”
