Martinek joins 1,000-point club at West Fork

MASON CITY – Thinking about joining Seth Tuttle and Payton Plagge in rarified air – 1,000 career points scored – was enough to give West Fork’s Zach Martinek goosebumps.
He became the school’s third member of the club on Friday, Dec. 7, needing only five points to reach the feat when the night started. He surpassed it at the 4 minute, 41 second mark of the first quarter on a drive to the basket for a lay-up in the Warhawks’ 71-61 win over Mason City Newman on the way to a 26-point night.
“It’s pretty surreal, I’ve got chills just thinking about it,” Martinek said of joining two players he grew up watching. “It’s pretty surreal, growing up, watching those guys, I’d idolize them and then to be in that elite category with them..."
