Martinek earns first team all-state nod

DES MOINES – West Fork junior Zach Martinek moved up from second to first team on the Class 1A all-state basketball team by sports writers, announced Tuesday morning.

Martinek was second team by the Iowa Newspaper Association last year and this year received the votes to earn first team by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association (IPSWA), which took over for the INA’s all-state program this year.

Martinek only improved from last season, averaging 18.8 points per game, 5.8 rebounds and led the Warhawks in steals with 48 (two per game) and averaged two assists a game.
