DECORAH - Wartburg track star and Hampton-Dumont-CAL graduate Lydia Mass won the American Rivers Conference Championship in the women's 5000 meter race on Friday, Feb. 27. Maas beat out 18 other runners with a time of 18 minutes, 3.85 seconds and helped Wartburg win the team conference championship. Mass discussed how she was able to win a conference championship in just her sophomore season.

"Running in college is a lot more consuming than it was in high school, and the biggest difference is committing to the lifestyle," Maas said. "Making a conscious effort to fuel your body, sleep eight hours a night and make decisions to prioritize your physical health all add up."

Maas also expressed her excitement in helping the team take home a conference championship.

"I love Wartburg, and I am so lucky to have a culture of women who are equally committed to bettering themselves around me," she said. "It feels so amazing to have helped the team win and be able to represent that culture and the Wartburg women as a program."
