An injured bald eagle got her first taste of freedom in more than a year this month during a special event at Maynes Grove.
Volunteers from Saving Our Avian Resources (SOAR) released the 5-year-old female March 14 following an extended stay at the organization’s facility near Dedham, Iowa. A small crowd watched as the eagle left her travel crate, took flight and disappeared over the tree line west of the pond.
“It was really nice to see,” said Brody Bertram, park ranger for Franklin County Conservation. “To watch her go full circle with her recovery and then get released again back here in Franklin County was great.”
