Years of experience as a firefighter and city government official gave Jason Harper the push to become Franklin County’s new Emergency Management Coordinator.
Harper, a 20-plus year Hansell City Councilman and Mayor and long-time member of the Hansell Fire Department, began service as the coordinator last Monday. He said he pursued the position because he felt his experiences as an emergency responder, coupled with a life-long residency of the county and budgeting experience developed through city government, would be an asset to the county.
“It was one of those deals where you see the job listing and you think, ‘I can’t think of anyone that would be better for the job than me,’” he said, with a laugh. “I wanted to give it a shot.”
Harper added that his career and volunteer services have helped him form connections with various emergency response entities, government officials and law enforcement officers throughout the county. Those relationships, he said, have helped him develop a valuable familiarity with the county and its communities.
