The sound of pounding hammers and screeching drills echoed through the Hampton Public Library early last month. Despite the noise and bustling activity, the commotion was a welcomed change of pace for the library’s staff and loyal patrons.
It marked the start to an extensive renovation project two years in the making.
“It’s a pretty big thing for an important city asset,” said library Director Kim Manning. “This should take care of our needs for quite a while.”
The project will replace windows, lintels and fix a bulge in the library’s curved brick wall. The renovations were scheduled for last year, but they got postponed after the lone construction bid came back significantly higher than the original estimate. The project was eventually rebid and awarded to Adams Concrete and Construction last November.
