Anticipation continues for the completion of the Hampton Public Library, as Director Kim Manning was informed that an April opening was unlikely, in favor of a more definitive completion in May.
The approximate $412,000 project has come across many hurdles throughout its planning. Originally only entailing the construction of a parking lot, entry door and courtyards on the East side of the building, the project evolved into replacing the entire curved wall due to structural deficiencies.
The library was one of 99 Carnegie libraries in the state. Famous steel builder Andrew Carnegie funded libraries for philanthropy, donating approximately $10,000 towards building the $16,000 building in Hampton, Manning said. There are currently 52 left in the state.
