More than a year after its completion, the Latimer Splash Pad continues to be a summer haven for area children looking to cool down.
“We’ve got a lot of kids coming from out of town or from in town using it,” said Cathy Carlson, a member of the Splash Pad Committee that helped bring the project to town. “I’ve had several people stop me and say how nice it is to have a place to take their kids and grandkids for an afternoon.”
The splash pad officially opened in late June last year thanks to a community wide effort to fundraise and organize resources. The committee was able to raise the funds through grants and donations in just a little more than a year, an effort Carlson said is indicative of the Latimer community.
“So many people give up when they hear a price tag…but if it’s something a community believes in, they can do it,” she said.
