Rarely are 100 degree days perfect for anything. Last Fri-day’s overwhelming heat, however, was the ideal condi-tion for the city of Latimer to celebrate the opening of its splash pad.
“We picked the right day,” said Cathy Carlson, who first brought the idea for the splash pad to the Latimer City Council last January. “The weather’s hot, the kids are in swimsuits, there’s a good crowd. We’re ready to turn it on.”
The celebration Friday night began with a dinner followed by a ribbon cutting. Then, it was time to play. Dozens of children sported swimsuits and sprinted through the streams and sprayers of the splash pad, located at West Park.
Robyn Kofoot, Cub Cadet Daycare and primary grant writer for the splash pad, couldn’t help but smile as she saw the enthusiasm from the throng of soaking wet kids running through the splash pad.
