Friday will be time to cele-brate at the Latimer Splash Pad.
After nearly a year and a half of fundraising, the splash pad will officially open to the public. Festivities start Fri-day, June 29 at 5 p.m., at West Park with a dinner of hot dogs, chips, lemonade, tea and water for the first 100 people. A ribbon cutting will follow at 5:30 p.m. Then it’s time for fun in the water.
The splash pad fundraising efforts took a big step forward Monday with two, $2,000 donations contributed by Kent Morton and Mort’s Water and the Latimer Development Corporation.
Those donations bring the total raised so far to more than $85,000 of the $100,000 goal.
Latimer Development Cor-poration President Doug Peter said the decision to support the splash pad financially was an easy one, as it provides entertainment for the families and increases the attractive-ness of the community.
“We need to support our kids, the community and our families,” he said. “Hopefully this helps make the communi-ty a more attractive place for businesses to come and oper-ate.”
