Lashbrook earns third state trip; West Fork freshman gains first state berth

DENVER – AGWSR junior Trey Lashbrook is making his third state wrestling meet berth with a 120-pound district championship at Denver on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Lashbrook won by 5-2 decision against Lake Mills’ Jack Ramaker in the semifinal and avenged one of his few losses in the final, a 4-2, sudden victory against Central Springs’ Bryce McDonough.

Lashbrook is a two-time medal winner, seeking his third this week in the Class 1A meet at Wells Fargo Arena.

West Fork freshman Kale Petersen earned his first state trip by finishing runner-up at 106 pounds in his third straight weekend of dropping a match to third-ranked Garret Rinken of Nashua-Plainfield.

Petersen, who pinned Lake Mills’ Kinser Hanson in 3 minutes, 17 seconds, lost by fall to Rinken in the final in 3:02. He didn’t have to wrestleback.

The Warhawks other wrestler seeking a state berth in a wildly talented heavyweight field, was Levi Janssen, who lost by 9-0 major decision against third-ranked Chandler Redenius of West Hancock and then in the third-place match was pinned by Riceville’s Chris Eastman in 2:35.
