Lanny Ross Blohm, 82

Lanny Ross Blohm, 82, of Dumont, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont.  He was born on June 19, 1938, in Dumont, to Lewie and Gertrude (Borneman) Blohm.  Lanny attended country school and Dumont Community School.

Lanny had four children Kim, Shelly, Todd and Randy.  He met Betty Winkowitsch and they were married on April 1, 1972, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.  This union joined their two families together, giving Lanny five stepchildren Jim, Valarie, Lloyd, Wanda, and Troy.

Lanny delivered milk for the Kesley Creamery, worked for several farmers in the Hampton area, and worked for Greis Construction in Des Moines, as a drywall hanger and finisher.  He retired after almost thirty years, on May 31, 2000.

Lanny was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Parish in Dumont and was active in many groups and events.  He renewed his faith and was saved on November 13, 1995.

Lanny enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, raising chickens, fixing cars, attending fairs and farm sales, and watching figure 8 races.  He also enjoyed old tractors and machinery, as well as his cats.

Lanny is survived by his wife of almost forty-nine years, Betty Blohm of Dumont, daughter Kim Christianson, daughter-in-law Mary Blohm, son-in-law Kevin Brannick, sisters Linda Gabe of Dumont, Brenda Blohm Baldwin (Fred) of Dumont, Marla Blohm (J.R.) of Melcher-Dallas, Iowa, stepchildren Jim (Jane) Eilderts, Valarie (Don) Ziegenhorn, Lloyd (Jo Ann Wallis) Eilderts, Wanda Johnson, and Troy (Lisa) Harkin.  He is also survived by twenty grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, nine great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Lewie and Gertrude, son Todd, son Randy, daughter Shelly Brannick and granddaughter Alana Johnson Weaver.

Private family services were held with burial in the Dumont Cemetery.  Cards of condolences may be sent to Lanny’s family and mailed to Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home, PO Box 403, Hampton, IA, 50441.  The Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home of Dumont cared for Lanny and his family.
