After what is becoming a tradition of coming to talk to Hampton-Dumont Middle School students, H-D graduate and Iowa State University offensive lineman Josh Knipfel took some time to speak to the fifth-grade classes on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
Knipfel made his second stop of the day after having lunch with the Kiwanis shortly before talking to students. He talked about the previous season, its highlights for him, which included momentarily being ejected before being reinstated during the Baylor game and taking part in his second bowl game, this time at the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.
“It was a good year,” Knipfel said. “Our finish was third in the conference, didn’t end the way we wanted to, but that just gives us motivation going into next year.”
Knowing that he is returning for another season without two of the Cyclones’ biggest stars, David Montgomery and Hakeem Butler, who both declared for the NFL draft the day before he stopped to speak the middle schoolers, Knipfel said that it will be a next-man-in for his team.
