AMES — With experience and attention coming his way, Josh Knipfel is set to have a good final season on the offensive line at Iowa State this fall.

“I’m excited,” Knipfel said during ISU Media Day on Thursday, Aug. 1. “It’s kind of a bittersweet kind of moment. It’s like, last go-around but it’s also my senior year, so it’s exciting.”

He is one of several experienced offensive linemen who will play a role in the Cyclones’ success in 2019.

“Last year was the first time we felt like there was…we had gotten a foothold of building blocks in place,” ISU head coach Matt Campbell said. “I think that part felt really good and that at Iowa State we are not just going to snap our fingers and have a top offensive line. The offensive line play is a learned skill and with practice.

“You’ve got to work in the weight room, you’ve got to work on how you eat,  how you play. You’ve got to have guys have to be communicating as one to be successful.”
