Unexpected construction costs and communitywide backlash have canceled plans for a $4.1 million apartment building in downtown Hampton, the project’s developers announced Monday.
KL Holdings owners Kyle Pralle and Landon Plagge will no longer pursue the construction of a 26-unit apartment complex known as The 101. Recent soil tests revealed a significant portion of the previous building was buried at the site and would require extensive excavation prior to construction. The added costs would push The 101 over budget and left the developers little choice but to ditch their plans, they said.
The news came during the Hampton City Council’s workshop Monday night. Plagge read from a prepared statement and thanked local government officials for their support, but he also took time to criticize “rumors” about The 101 that he felt hampered its chances at success.
