Ivan D. Davis, 89

Ivan D. Davis, loving husband, proud father, and devoted grandfather, passed away at the age of 89, at the Shell Point Retirement Community in Ft. Myers, Florida, on January 17, 2022.

Ivan was born on September 13, 1932, in Hampton, Iowa, to Troy and Vera (Springer) Davis. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1950. While playing in a high school basketball game, he met his future wife, Janiece Borcherding, a cheerleader for the opposing team.

Ivan attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, was married in August 1953, and graduated with an accounting degree in 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army and served on the island of Okinawa until 1956, when he returned to Iowa and began work for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

In 1960, he began a 53-year banking career at the Latimer State Bank in Latimer, Iowa, and later became the President and Chairman of the Hampton State Bank, the Davis’ family owned business.

In Latimer and in Hampton, he enjoyed being involved in the success of those communities. In Latimer, he assisted his father-in-law with the development of the Latimer Golf Course, which was later gifted to the community. In Hampton, Ivan supported many local organizations, especially Kiwanis, serving as president. Ivan was also a charter stockholder in the Iowa Community Credit Corporation, the precursor to the Iowa Business Growth Corporation of Des Moines, Iowa, a large SBA loan facilitator.

Upon their retirement from the bank, Ivan and Janiece moved to Sanibel Island, Florida.

Ivan enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially golfing or fishing. He never passed up the opportunity to say hello and chat with any child he saw, always introducing himself as “Old Tom” because “Ivan is a hard name for a kid to pronounce.”

Ivan was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Janiece, as well as a sister, Carol. He is survived by his son, Brad (Peggy) Davis of Coralville, Iowa, and his daughter, Lori (Joseph) Cole, of Chicago; his grandchildren, Kate (Scott) Atwood, Andrew (Nicole) Davis, Matthew (Betsy) Davis, Michael Davis, Ian Cole, and Anna Cole; and his great grandchildren, Jackson Davis, Elliot and Claire Atwood, Guy and Sloane Davis, and Luka Brokaw. He is also survived by a brother, Keith Davis, of Concord, California, and a sister, Neva Benton, of Hampton.

A memorial service was held at Shell Point in Ft. Myers. Interment will be at the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution in memory of Ivan be made to either The Salvation Army or the Hampton, Iowa Kiwanis Club. Condolences and contributions may be sent to Brad Davis at 90 Auburn East Lane, Coralville, IA 52241, or Lori Cole at 3896 Ponchartrain Dr, Michiana, MI 49117.
