Franklin County families with incomes at or below twice the federal poverty level can apply for assistance to recoup damages suffered during the June 16-20 storms.

Fourteen counties throughout the state are now eligible for the Iowa Individual Disaster Assistance Grant Program. Franklin County was added to the list last Wednesday, which also includes fellow north central Iowa counties Kossuth and Hancock. The program offers qualifying recipients a grant of up to $5,000 to help with storm-related expenses.

The Iowa Individual Disaster Assistance Grant Program was launched following the governor’s disaster declaration and at the request of local officials. Families interested in applying for the grant should contact the North Iowa Community Action Organization (NICAO) for more information at 641-456-3431. NICAO has an office located in the Community Resource Center in Hampton.
