Healthy Harvest of North Iowa kicked off its Field Day Series at the Paul Willis Farm Satur-day afternoon near Thornton. The program included updates from local farmers that attended, a discussion about what’s essential in market development strategies, and an opportunity to learn about a program tailored to help new farmers get a solid start.
Marie Boyd. Executive Director of Healthy Harvest of North Iowa, began the program by giving a background of the group and explaining its function.
Healthy Harvest of North Iowa is a nonprofit organization, led by a small part-time team, that works with a network of local food leaders across North Iowa including farm and food business owners, consumers, elected officials, community leaders, public health, educators, economic development, and more.
Boyd emphasized that market development is a key function of Healthy Harvest.
“Two of the important factors in that development is determining if a farmer has adequate access to a market of choice and then determining how to get the product there,” she said.
