Earlier this month, the Hampton Rotary Club distributed 155 dictionaries to Franklin County third graders.
John Terwin, co-president of the Rotary Club, said the annual event is greatly anticipated by both Rotary and the students.
“For one, kids love to get the books,” he said. “At times, you start to wonder if they still appreciate a dictionary, but their eyes still light up when we walk in.”
“A Student’s Dictionary,” Terwin said, is more than just words and definitions. The books contain grammar and pronunciation guides, a list of United States presidents, a map of the United States and more educational materials.
