A recent outbreak of snow-related parking tickets was criticized by irritated Hampton residents during last Thursday’s city council meeting.

More than 90 residents were ticketed for violating the city’s emergency snow ordinance following a Jan. 5 winter storm. Some of those individuals had input for the council during the public comment session last week, which was filled with critiques of the current policy and suggestions for improvement.

“To have officers out there in the freezing cold and 90 tickets be written, I think that indicates there’s something wrong with the system,” said Mayor Brook Boehmler. “We’d much rather have you shopping locally than buying tickets.”
