After changing his plea status twice since his initial arrest in April, Michael Lynn Rodemeyer Sr., 72, of Hampton, filed a final guilty plea to amended sexual abuse charges in Franklin County District Court on August 3.
Rodemeyer was arrested on April 20, 2017, after a weeklong investigation into reports of alleged sexual abuse of a minor spanning three years. Originally, he faced four counts of Sexual Abuse: two counts of Second-Degree Sexual Abuse by the Hampton Police Department, and one count of Second-Degree Sexual Abuse and one count of Third-Degree Sexual Abuse by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. However, as of August 3, Rodemeyer entered a guilty plea to two counts amended to Third-Degree Sexual Abuse, and the count of Third-Degree Sexual Abuse he was initially charged with, according to Iowa court documents. One count of Second-Degree Sexual Abuse was dismissed as part of the plea offer made by the state.
