Hampton council discusses snow tickets, traffic light grant

Legal action on parking tickets issued during a Jan. 7 snowstorm will be delayed until the Hampton City Council addresses the issue at its Feb. 23 workshop.

The announcement came following a brief discussion during the council’s meeting last Thursday. More than 90 parking tickets were issued to vehicles in violation of the city’s snow ordinance earlier this month, and some council members and Hampton residents felt the inflated number was due to confusion over the rules.

“They still owe that ticket right now, but they are not getting assessed a late fee until we decide what we’re doing,” said Mayor Brook Boehmler. “And if they pay it and we decide to take those tickets back, the city will write them a check.”
