The Hampton City Council approved the final language for the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) Re-Allocation ballot item during their regular meeting on Thursday, August 10.
Since 2009, LOST revenue has been exclusively dedicated to funding the construction, equipping, and operational costs of the Hampton Aquatic Center. With the pool now paid off, the city has determined that the aquatic center no longer needs 100 percent of that revenue, opening up the discussion of how to spend those funds in the future.
Changing the designated use for LOST revenue requires voter approval, thus the council has spent the last several months discussing and debating exactly how those funds should be distributed before setting language for the ballot box.
