Hames to Class 1A all-district team

DES MOINES – AGWSR senior Alyssa Hames was once again honored by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association by being selected to the Class 1A North Central all-district team, announced late last week.

In Class 2A, West Fork's Emma Martinek was the area's other nominee.

Hames, who joined the Cougars’ 1,000-point club this season and in her last high school game set the AGWSR school mark for career rebounds with 690, was also an all-state honoree in 2019-20 by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.

She scored 413 points this season for an average of 18.7 points per game and 9.22 rebounds per game. Hames also averaged a little more than two steals and an assist per game for coach Laurie Gann’s Cougars.

AGWSR finished with an overall record of 14-8.

Martinek, a sophomore, led coach Rodney Huber’s Warhawks in averaging a little more than 13 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game. She also averaged almost two steals and an assist per game as West Fork finished 14-8 overall.

The Class 2A Northeast District Coach of the Year was Dike-New Hartford’s Bruce Dall.

Algona Garrigan’s Brandon Schwab was voted 1A North Central coach of the year.
