Hampton-Dumont senior Preston Miller recently had the rare chance to go behind-the-scenes at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines.
Through a job shadow with Speaker of the House of Representatives Linda Upmeyer, Miller got a first-hand look at how state government operations on a day-to-day basis.
He was able to tour the Capitol building, lead the Pledge of Allegiance, sit in on committee meetings and speak with Upmeyer about the political outlook of the state.
A job shadow is required of all H-D seniors. Because of his passion for politics, he and H-D counselor Tricia Christiansen worked with Upmeyer's office to set up the visit.
