This year’s six All-State selections for Hampton-Dumont-CAL High School’s individual speech team is a far cry from a team that had a handful of members just a few years ago.
Seniors Sara Buseman, Wyatt Folkerts and Morgan Miller and junior Brenna Val-lery last Monday had the opportunity to attend and per-form at the All-State Individual Speech Festival at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Miller and Buseman received two nomi-nations.
“To be able to perform among all these great performers was surreal,” said Vallery.
Buseman, who received her fourth and fifth career All-State nominations this year, said the opportunity to participate in the festival is an “honor” as it’s a showcase of the best of the best in the state.
“It’s just a big honor to make it to All-State because I know how many good performers are at the schools,” she said. “Just to be able to know my performances stuck out and made an impact is one of the best feelings.”
