The push to follow one’s dreams can often be traced back to a simple question – “If not now, when?”
That’s the motivation and mindset that led Hampton-Dumont alums Ross and Tara Shafrath to sell their home in Brookings, S.D. and tour the country while living out of a 17-foot trailer.
“There is so much of the country to see that before we settled down again, we needed to explore what the country had to offer,” Tara said. “We knew we were never going to have this opportunity, have these strong abled bodies and the ability to up and leave.
“If we didn’t do it now, we knew it probably wouldn’t ever happen,” she added.
Deciding to take the leap last year, Ross and Tara spent the next nine months planning the trip, readying the house for sale and unloading most of their possessions. The dream officially became a reality a little less than two months ago when Ross, Tara and their dog, Olive, hooked up the trailer and headed west.
