A Hampton-Dumont-CAL teacher has been acknowledged for her ability to influence prospective teachers.
Sarah DeBour, agriculture instructor for the district, was named the Iowa Association of Agricultural Educators’ Outstanding Teacher Mentor for 2019. The Teacher Mentor Award recognizes individuals who provide mentorship to new prospective agricultural educators.
A release issued by the IAEE said DeBour’s work to encourage, guide and lead fellow teachers earned her the recognition for 2019.
DeBour, who has worked in the field for about 10 years, said she’s been conducting a student teaching program since 2016. She said she appreciates student teaching because it allows her to help shape the next generation of student teachers. As a veteran in the teaching field, DeBour said student teaching not only allows her to serve as a model while an individual is in the program, but she can continue to be a reference after he or she earns a teaching position of their own.
