H-D board discusses South Side visit; facility upgrades

A recent visit to South Side Elementary by the Hampton-Dumont Board of Education revealed “eye-opening” space constraints in classrooms throughout the building, according to discussion at Monday night’s meeting.

     The board has been discussing ongoing spatial needs at the district’s two elementary buildings during the past six months. South Side Elementary is cramped for classroom space due to enrollment spikes, while the condition of North Side Elementary has gradually declined over the years due to age. The district has been gathering data and information about possible expansion at South Side to accommodate the prolonged enrollment increases.

     Last week, board members visited both buildings and observed the situation for themselves.
