Grundy Center star roars back in second half to top Bulldogs

GRUNDY CENTER – Facing a halftime deficit and feeling the effects of flu-like symptoms all day, all-stater Hailey Wallis emerged from the locker room in the second half to score 13 points and make just enough difference for Class 2A top-ranked Grundy Center to defeat a previously one-loss Hampton-Dumont team, 72-54, on Monday, Dec. 17.
It was a turnaround of epic proportions as the 8-0 Spartans made a 26-20 lead for the Bulldogs after the break something to put in their rear-view mirrors in outscoring the visitors 52-28 in the second half.
“Hailey has been throwing up all day,” Grundy Center coach Matt Lindeman said after the game. “So, she didn’t play to start the game. She didn’t play the first quarter and part of the second.."
