Republican Senator Charles Grassley paid a visit to Franklin County this past Monday. Grassley was invited to Franklin General Hospital to take a tour of the hospital’s construction projects regarding patient privacy and its new mental health program for senior citizens.
Grassley concluded the tour with a town-hall style question and answer session, answer constituents questions regarding rising health care costs and gun legislation.
The Chronicle asked several questions regarding Iowan issues, including dilapidated infrastructure, Iowa exports impacted by withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Trade Partnership, as well as wind energy.
Grassley said there are two methods for infrastructure updates, through the Highway Reauthorization Bill, which will continue current levels of funding for infrastructure, and President Trump’s larger infrastructure proposal. Grassley said that there wouldn’t be any new tax dollars put to infrastructure until the larger plan can be approved.
