Georgia man apprehended on involuntary manslaughter charge in Franklin

     Georgia State Patrol arrested Antonio Marecheau, 58, Newnan, Georgia, on Jan. 9 in Newnan, Georgia on a Franklin County charge of involuntary manslaughter. Marecheau was the driver of a semi-tractor trailer that struck and killed Sheffield woman Penny Rust at a Highway 65 intersection (Skinny Patton’s Corner) in February 2016.
     According to incident reports, Rust was not distracted or otherwise in the wrong, in the accident. Marecheau, allegedly, was using his cellular device, ignoring rumble strips and a stop sign at the intersection. Rust was pronounced dead at the scene, while Marecheau was taken to Franklin General Hospital.
     The Iowa State Patrol and Franklin County Attorney where reached out to for comment but did not respond before press time.
