Gary Robert Butson, 81

Gary Robert Butson, 81, passed away November 21, 2023 at his home in Thornton, Colorado. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton. Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton with burial in the Lindenwood Cemetery in Geneva. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton. 

Gary was born in Springfield, Ohio on September 6th, 1942, the son of Robert and Birdell Butson. He lived on the family farm in Geneva, Iowa until attending college at Iowa State University where he majored in Landscape Architecture. Gary then served in the Army Reserves and moved to Maryland a year later. He spent most of his career there as a landscape architect and started Capitol Development Design, a landscape architecture and civil engineering firm, with his good friend Victor Chen. 

Gary  is survived by his wife Linda Butson, his sons Sean Butson and Christopher Butson, and his sisters Gloria Burggraf and Gail Maifeld, in addition to six grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and extended family in Iowa.
