Latimer’s American Legion Riders Post 658 is hoping community support and a little patience is able to bring Franklin County its very own Freedom Rock.

The Legion Riders are raising funds to bring artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen II to the county to paint a massive rock with a patriotic theme honoring veterans. Sorensen has already painted Freedom Rocks in 25 counties throughout the state, and he hopes to have one in all 99 counties someday.

Post 658 has made trips to the original Freedom Rock near Greenfield in the past and thought Franklin County needed one of its own. According the group’s treasurer, Gladys Fanny, the Franklin County Freedom Rock will be placed near the howitzer cannon and shelter house on the north side of Coulter.
