Freshman phenoms: H-D lower weight trio impresses

HAMPTON — Maybe not so quietly, Hampton-Dumont freshmen Jakyb Kapp, Jack Showalter and Carl Barkema went a combined 13-2 during the H-D wrestling duals home tournament on Saturday, Jan. 5.

Kapp, wrestling at 106, went 5-0 with four pins and a forfeit to earn a first-place medal while both Showalter (113) and Barkema (120) finished 4-1 to finish second as H-D finished 3-2 as a team.

Getting to this point has been a long time coming for Kapp.
