Franklin County reaches out to Prestage Foods

Multi-million dollar pork plant voted down in MC earlier this month
 
     Despite stiff competition from other communities, Franklin County officials have rolled out the welcome mat in hopes of wooing a $240 million pork processing plant that was recently canned in Mason City.
     Franklin County Supervisor Mike Nolte and Franklin County Development Association Director Karen Mitchell both confirmed they met with an unnamed Prestage Foods representative May 20 at the Latimer Community Center. According to Nolte, they also visited multiple properties near Latimer and Coulter that could possibly be used to house the massive pork plant.
     “Basically, we had reached out and wanted to have a conversation with them to see if there was any mutual interest,” Nolte said. “We’re an ag-based county. We wanted to see what their needs are, what they’re looking for and what we have to offer.”
